Road Trip! Part Two

Jon and Sara invited us to go to the San Diego Zoo with them and I was so excited for this to be Luke's first trip to the zoo! It was sooo good to see Jon, Sara and their cute little Jack who will be a big brother in October (congrats, guys!). We went to the zoo at night which was so cool because it wasn't as hot and the animals were pretty active. We loved the new elephant exhibit!

At the end of the night we took the tram back to the zoo entrance - Luke slept, but there were some really beautiful views of San Diego at night. Made me miss it!

We snuck in one more trip to the beach before we left. This time it was overcast, but that made it perfect for Luke. Here he is in his snug little set up.

Luke got to spend a little time with Grandpa before we headed home.

Luke was such a great little traveler! We broke the 10 hour drive from San Diego to Reno into two days to make it easier. It's not a very interesting drive - just lots and lots of desert and not many places to stop. However, we did have to make an emergency pit stop due to a blow out. Not a tire - but Luke's diaper! We were on a stretch of road where there weren't any rest stops or gas stations - just desert and a few trees here and there. Andy found the only shady spot and we gave Luke a "baby wipe bath". Here's some pictures from our "off-road adventure".

Road Trip! - part 1

This was our first serious road trip with Luke. We drove 6 hours to Fresno (it took us 9), visited with friends and went to a wedding, then we drove 6 hours (it took us 9) to San Diego. We took Andy's truck which was great...and despite how this looks, Luke didn't ride in the bed.

When Andy and I first got married & were living in Fresno, my friend, Breanne and I spent a lot of time drinking wine together and waiting for our husbands to come home. Now look at us! Her daughter, Kaylin is 2 and her son, Jack is about 3 weeks older than Luke. He's much bigger though! So fun to see them!

FInally in San Diego - we got there just in time to see Luke's cousin, Bud, who was visiting from Georgia.

We took Luke to the beach with Brian and Jamie's kids - Luke and Marley bonded!

I have a feeling one day she'll be giving Luke surf lessons!
We also got to catch up with Andy's uncles and Aunt Sandy. Here's a picture of Luke in his new shoes with Aunt Sandy - thank you!

Future Charger or writer?

Our friend, Jane gave this LT onesie to us and I couldn't wait for Luke to be able to wear it. Too bad in the time it took for Luke to grow into it, the Chargers lost Ladainian Tomlinson. Oh well, maybe one day Luke will be wearing #21 for the Chargers. He looks like the real deal in this outfit!

Jane came to visit for a few days and Luke helped her with her book. He can't type, so he dictated. :)

First shots :(

After a great time at the lake, we were bummed we had to come home and go to the Dr. for Luke's 2 month appointment! Andy, Luke and I made our way to the Dr. first thing in the morning. He weighed in at 12 lbs 9 oz - our little boy ain't so little any more! The doctor commented on how alert and how strong Luke is (yes, Andy was glowing when she said this). He IS pretty strong, though - he's been holding his head up since he was born and he is the king of the staring contest. No one escapes those blue eyes. It was a great appointment until the nurse came in with the shots. Andy had to hold Luke because I was in the corner crying. Poor little guy he was all smiles until they stuck him then he let out a cry I never heard from him before. So sad! This motherhood thing is really making me sensitive! He cried for a long time then he fell asleep in the car and slept for most of the day. But here's a picture of him after his shots. He loves to look up at the animals on the wall above his changing table. Notice the big bandaids on his little legs. :( Ouch!

4th of July

For Luke's first fourth of July we decided to take our first weekend trip. We rented a house a Donner Lake with our friends (two other couples + their four kids). Andy and I were laughing because it took us so long to get out of the house since we had to pack up what seemed like the whole house for a 2 day 2 night trip! Wow kids come with a lot of stuff! It was a good first trip because the lake is only 40 minutes away. And the house we rented was great - walking distance to the lake and we had the whole upstairs to ourselves so Luke didn't wake the whole house when he got up at 4am to eat! Here's some pictures of Luke's first trip to "the beach".

Luke loved hanging out with kids for the first time. Here he is surrounded by cute blondes...I think they're digging the monkey hat.

Here is is hanging with the dudes. (Our friend Eric and his oldest son, Kaden.)

Walking to the lake - loving that baby Bjorn! But Luke doesn't seem too impressed.

By Sunday he was wiped and spent most of the day sleeping on Dad. Life is good!

Luke did great on our first weekend away from home. We had such a great time with our great friends! Can't wait to do it again!
